Eating a healthy well-balanced diet is the key to optimal health. Many chronic illnesses are the result of a long-term diet of unhealthy, processed foods that lack the nutrient density of whole foods.
All of our licensed Chinese Practitioners (acupuncturists) are also trained in Eastern and Western Nutrition, so you might receive some nutritional advice during your acupuncture session!
What is Eastern Nutrition?
Eastern nutrition is based on the theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine. We look at the energetic properties of foods such as the temperature and taste of the specific food. For example meats tend to be ‘warmer’ in nature and many fruits and vegetables tend to run on the cooler or cold side (although there are fruits and vegetables that are considered warm). The goal of Eastern nutrition is to eat a balanced diet consisting of a combination of hot, warm, cool, and cold foods to maintain the yin/yang balance of the body. If a person runs hot, then we would typically recommend a diet leaning towards cooler foods. If a person runs cold, we recommend a diet leaning towards warmer foods. We also look at the 6 different tastes: bland, spicy, sour, bitter, sweet, and salty.
We don’t believe in dieting, but rather learning how to eat unprocessed whole foods. At our clinic, we combine the knowledge of Eastern Nutrition (Chinese medicine nutrition) with western nutrition to give you the most effective nutrition plan possible.
